Meet the faces of GrandVision’s CSR Ambassador Community: Turkey

What motivated you to join the GrandVision CSR Ambassador community?

First, I am very proud to work for a company in which the core business serves to provide the best quality vision for everyone and reveal everybody’s potential.

I believe that as individuals and companies, we need to take responsibility for our social and environmental impact. So, when I first heard about the exciting opportunity to join the CSR Ambassador Community, I volunteered to be Atasun Optik’s CSR ambassador. In this community, we have the chance to share our local initiatives and learn from each other. It feels great to contribute to the well-being of society and the environment.

What facets of CSR are currently highest priority for Atasun Optik?

We aim to position Atasun Optik as a responsible retail brand that focuses on creating value for people and the environment. We do this by showing our commitment to GrandVision’s three CSR pillars: Our People, Our Product Value Chain and Our Presence. We prioritize many CSR initiatives including raising awareness about eye health, collaborating with NGOs, contributing to optical sector development by supporting opticianry students, promoting diversity and inclusion (D&I), and implementing product quality and compliance processes. For each of these initiatives, we have identified solid action plans with specific timelines that we follow up with in our local CSR committee regularly.

What CSR initiatives at Atasun Optik are you most proud of?

It is legally forbidden to advertise spectacles, frames, and lenses in Turkey since mid-2014. As a result, we have been trying to redefine our messages about eyecare in alternative ways, despite the strict regulations. In May 2021, we launched our public eye health platform to inform people about eye health with accurate and expert-approved information.

Moreover, we have participated in several initiatives that aim to reflect GrandVision’s global vision of revealing everyone’s potential. In February 2021, we launched a development program to support successful optician students with scholarships, internships and trainings. Furthermore, in 2018 we collaborated with The Foundation of Turkish Education Volunteers and made donations to contribute towards the education of 2,000 children in honor of our 200th store opening.

What is your hope for the future of GrandVision?

We are undertaking great initiatives in terms of eyecare solutions, sustainability and D&I. My expectation for the future would be to progress on the topic of inclusive leadership at GrandVision. I would also like to continue collaborating with NGOs to improve eyecare accessibility and raise our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) benchmark scores.

Additionally, as part of our responsibility as a global brand, I would like to see GrandVision invest in more digital tools for remote eye testing and spread our enthusiasm for quality eyecare across the world.
