Through our Citizenship and Community Involvement initiatives
To ensure an increasing number of people around the world have access to the eye care and vision correction they need, we look beyond our core retail activities and encourage our customers and employees to participate in the charitable initiatives we support. Read more in our 2017 CSR Report.
Corporate Citizenship initiatives: provide access to eye care
Through our Corporate Citizenship initiatives, we aim to improve the quality of life of people with limited access to eye care. GrandVision's initiatives empower local communities with knowledge and services and they are aligned to our mission of delivering high-quality and affordable eye care to more and more people around the world. We impact the lives of disadvantaged communities, such as those living in the global South, but also the homeless and disabled, by giving them access to eye care services and products. In recent years, our local banners have conducted thousands of free eye exams and donated spectacles or financial capital to fund solutions to meet local eye care needs..
To broaden the impact of our Corporate Citizenship initiatives our retail banners operate over 20 partnerships and collaborations worldwide with highly respected Non-Governmental Organizations that share our ambition and values. These collaborations enable us to engage more people and impact more livelihoods at a global
level. Several of these initiatives have required trips abroad, among others to Congo, Ghana or Peru, by volunteers from various GrandVision’s retail banners. During these missions in 2017, our opticians have carried out over 8,300 eye exams for people in need. Similarly, our businesses have distributed over 165,000 second-hand glasses to economically disadvantaged communities – either in their own country or in regions around the world. Community Involvement initiatives: enhance eye care awareness
GrandVision’s Community Involvement initiatives are aimed at increasing eye care awareness in the markets in which we are active. To this end, our local banners participate in regional or national health and safety campaigns. [See case study: Eye tests save lives.]
